Chef Ken & Jacquie from Nellie James Gourmet Foods to Go were some of the coolest looking people we knew so we were so excited when they asked to get their Portraits taken at our Studio.
Before our session we sat done with Jacquie and Ken to go over their expectations of what they wanted from the shoot. They brought food, unexpected but very much appreciated, but soon it became hard to talk about anything but the dishes!
If you haven’t been to Nellie James at 144 King St. W. in Dundas I HIGHLY recommend it! Chef Ken prides himself on sourcing local farmers and suppliers and making everything by hand with NO shortcuts! And it shows. Marta and I were orgasmically dying over everything they brought. “Oh God” was followed by each and every bite.
Once we had our fill we could resume the consultation and define how they wanted to be portrayed. They both said the same thing, ‘We just want to look cool’. They said they were old but they aren’t because badass is not defined by age. They remain sharp, spirited and still very passionate and curious about the world around them. Jacquie also requested to have some images with a strong corporate feel for her previous background as a consultant so we worked that into their shot list.
Ken came separately to the shoot on his bike like the badass he is and we got some great shots in the courtyard of the Cotton Factory. Jacquie blew our minds with her hair and make up transformation from Brenda of Vibrant Beauty because we’ve only ever seen her hair in a ponytail.
It made us so happy to know that our portraiture is sought by all demographics, be it age, race or gender identity. Beauty is beauty, and badass is badass.
